One of the most beautiful sights you can ever lay eyes on is a beautifully designed fountain. There are hundreds of these amazing fountains all around the world for people to enjoy. These fountains are a reflection of the legends and cultures of the particular area of the world where they are located. If you are looking for a great way to expand your artistic tastes, then visiting the Magic Fountain of Montjuic is an absolute must. This fountain can be found in Barcelona, Spain. This is one of the world’s most beautiful fountains and has an interesting history to go along with its beautiful design.
Magic Fountain was the dream of a designer named Carles Buigas. Buigas was an expert in designing fountains that were illuminated. He had been involved in this type of designing since the early 1920s. When Buigas first submitted his design plans for Magic Fountain, it was believed the plans and design were too elaborate and ambitious to be carried out successfully with the short amount of time that the project needed to be completed by. The construction of the fountain was so large and elaborate, over 3,000 people were hired to get the job done. The construction of the fountain began in 1928 and was completed one short year later in 1929. The goal was to have the fountain completed before the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition show was to take place.
One interesting piece of history concerning the Magic Fountain was the damage it sustained during the Spanish Civil War. The fountain was not operational from that point until the mid-1950s. It was Buigas who finally saw that the fountain needed to be repaired and initiated the project. One of the reasons this fountain draws in so many visitors is that it has an amazing light and music show. This show was first added to the fountain display in the 1980s. One of the most famous musical performances to take place at the fountain included music from the hit film series “The Lord of the Rings.”
The light shows that take place at Magic Fountain are held at different times depending on the time of year. Some of the shows take place the late fall months to the early spring time on the weekends. If you are interested in catching one of these shows, you will need to go in the evening at 7:00 pm.
